The Supermoon
In the early hours of an August night
The moon was especially full and bright
The moon was especially full and bright
It was the Sturgeon Moon I came to know
And it set my innermost thoughts aglow
And it set my innermost thoughts aglow
Up at its beauty, I so wished to gaze
And to its Maker offer thanks and praise
And to its Maker offer thanks and praise
I quickly finished my chores and readings
Anticipating the night's proceedings
Anticipating the night's proceedings
Then I prepared some tea and filled my cup
And went to the balcony, and looked up
And went to the balcony, and looked up
There it was, illuminating the sky
Its surface seen by the unaided eye
Its surface seen by the unaided eye
Such brilliance displayed and further-made bold
By a clear dark night, a sight to behold
By a clear dark night, a sight to behold
In a joyful bliss, just the moon and I
I stared in sweet silence, and hours passed by
I stared in sweet silence, and hours passed by
I thought, this luminous inspiring light
Could move criminals and guide them aright
Could move criminals and guide them aright
Its radiance could give life to the hearts
Engulfed in the shadows of the dark arts
Engulfed in the shadows of the dark arts
A vision of this heavenly token
Could heal a soul that's aching and broken
Could heal a soul that's aching and broken
Who else is watching the moon at this time
And is thinking, the Lord is so sublime
And is thinking, the Lord is so sublime
As I pondered this signpost on the quest
It as the night's host, and I as its guest
It as the night's host, and I as its guest
I recalled some sacred words I had read
In which the Full Moon of Madina ﷺ said,
In which the Full Moon of Madina ﷺ said,
"You will see your Lord as you see this moon..."
The night carried on with I in a swoon
The night carried on with I in a swoon

Beautiful poem! May we be guided to reflection by looking at God’s creation!
Alhamdulillah, Looking up on the balcony is meditation in a beautiful way
The flow of the poem was like and independent cadence were one idea flowed smoothly onto another. Quite compelling. Well done!
Alhumdulillah, that is beautiful!
Some of the most awe-inspiring moments of deep thought I have ever had involved laying down at my campsite up north staring into the star-studded universe and trying to comprehend its immenseness and meaning. Reading your poem brings those moments back to me. Thanks for that.
SubhanAllah, food for the mind and soul! Mabruk Ustadh Irshaad.
Lovely brings out the beauty of the moon
I thoroughly enjoyed this story-like creative piece adorned with multiple poetic devices including allegory, similes and metaphors beautifying its content following the tradition of beautiful rhythm and rhymes. It’s a beautiful poem, dear br. Irshad Rashid sb. Congrats!
The wonders of Allah can bring bliss in the simplest of moments. We often over complicate our lives in pursuit of feelings that we attribute to happiness. Moments like this serve as focal point so that we may have direction in our path towards Allah. I am very grateful that Allah has given us the ability to share these experiences with one another. To be able to witness the creations of Allah brings a feeling to my heart that is unrivaled by any other emotion. Thank you for allowing us to share this moment with you by painting a picture in our imaginations through such beautiful words.
I love how you have set such a playful tone in this poem about a topic with a huge magnitude. One can truly feel the excitement, wonder and appreciation that you are experiencing. It makes me as the reader excited and inspired to view the moon and reflect on the omnipotence of Allah.
